About Us

Our cattery Balkankedi is located on Staten Island , New York. We are a husband and wife team sharing our admiration of Turkish Angoras. Our initial interest in the breed developed when in December 2001 we adopted a small female kitten and named her Payda . Although she does not have any certified pedigree, Payda is 3/4 Turkish Angora and her unusual intelligence prompted our interest in the breed. Initially we just wanted to know if Payda’s unusual traits were the result of her upbringing or something characteristic of the Turkish Angora breed. Collecting and reading everything we could find about Turkish Angoras convinced us that gentle manners and unusual intelligence were indeed characteristics of the whole breed. This conviction is even stronger now after we had our chance to acquire personal experience of caring for and observing four (and now five!) 100% Turkish Angoras.
